Property Hotspots in the Borough of Islington

Islington is one of London’s most sought-after locations, with properties becoming increasingly desirable here. It’s a compact borough, but despite that fact, it’s amazingly diverse, with each area having its own distinct personality.

If you’re thinking of moving to Islington, here are the top places to consider when you start your search.

The top places to buy property in Islington

    Finsbury Park

Finsbury Park has changed beyond recognition in the last decade or so, thanks to the major regeneration works that have taken place here. Now it’s one of Islington’s most popular residential areas, and has a huge amount to offer homebuyers. The park itself is a big draw, as it offers peace and tranquillity, right in the heart of the city. The independent shops and cosmopolitan atmosphere are also much-loved by the locals.

Despite the area’s growing popularity, average house prices are still remarkably affordable. A one-bedroomed flat can be bought for as little as £250,000, for example, while a good-sized family apartment is around £500,000.

    Holloway

Holloway is another part of Islington that’s been redeveloped recently, and there are plenty of attractive period homes on the market; something that homebuyers will appreciate. The area is also synonymous with Art Deco, with some lovely examples of this architectural style still in evidence, such as the Odeon cinema.

Georgian and Victorian homes dominate the market here, with the generously proportioned townhouses being especially popular. Although these usually cost over a million to buy, they offer great value for money when compared to similar properties in other parts of London There are also several new developments in Holloway, offering spacious apartments for £220,000 upwards.

    Highbury

Like Finsbury Park, Highbury provides residents with a large green area – Highbury Fields. In bustling London, this is always appreciated, by dog-walkers, joggers, and families with children alike. Highbury’s central hub is Highbury Barn, and it has a real sense of community, thanks to its cafes, boutique shops and pubs.

Highbury is ideal for those who love period properties, and the elegant Georgian townhouses are particularly sought-after. There are also some excellent modern apartments on the market, such as those in the Highbury Stadium Square development.

    Canonbury

Canonbury has quite a buzz to it these days, which makes it the ideal location for young professionals, and those who enjoy an active social life. It also has a literary feel, thanks to its connections with George Orwell and Evelyn Waugh.

The area boasts some impressively grand period houses, with many costing millions, especially those situated near the canal path. However, it’s possible to purchase a one-bedroomed flat for just £325,000, which is welcome news for first-time buyers.

    Tufnell Park

Tufnell Park straddles both the borough of Islington and the borough of Camden. It’s a relatively small area, and as such, the property market is less expansive, which means homes are usually snapped up quickly. Residents love its down-to-earth ambiance, not to mention the wealth of excellent local amenities.

Victorian terraces and villas dominate the market here, along with a few appealing contemporary developments. A generously sized family home here can be found for as little as £600,000, while a spacious modern apartment typically costs £330,000 to £400,000.
